Introduction
Dynamic Bell, Dynamic Bell's NetWorld (DBNW) and DigiMail are trading names of Universal Dynamics Pty Limited (ACN 064 416 673). Universal Dynamics is a wholly owned subsidiary of ERA West Inc, which is listed on the American NASDAQ exchange, ticker code: ERAW.
Background
Dynamic Bell started life around June 1994 in the newly deregulated telecommunications industry predominantly as a reseller of Telstra services aimed at small to medium businesses but with other agreements in place between Global One Communications, Telegroup Inc and IDT Corporation. The company grew very quickly at that time but it was not long before the "big players" began to attempt to squeeze the smaller players out by aggressive price restructuring at a wholesale level.
Dynamic Bell was quick to spot this and understanding the limitations of being a "switchless reseller" took steps to stay ahead of the pack by creating a range of value added products. That range of products included such services as: bill analysis, annual usage reports, percentage charts, watchdog reports (to isolate potential budget blowouts, most frequently called number itemisation as well as facilities to total all international and mobile calls separately. All of these features were developed "in-house" on Dynamic Bells own billing platform and it was years before the others could duplicate these services. Dynamic Bell maintained until recently a loyal but decreasingly profitable client base consisting predominantly of medium sized businesses.
New Focus
In April 1999, a decision was made by management to cease operations in this field on the basis of two commercial considerations. First, the telecommunications industry in Australia has evolved into a market in which a switchless reseller cannot compete effectively no matter how well they can "value add" to the product. The entire industry is now given over to very large international players and the amount of capital required to compete in that market would be both difficult to raise and provide what we believe to be doubtful returns. Secondly, the concept of the Internet and telephones as being two separate systems will very quickly become redundant. We believe the Internet IS the telephone system and soon a telephone call will be merely another piece of traffic moving over the Internet.
On January 26th 1998, Dynamic Bell launched its foray into the Internet market as an ISP under the banner of Dynamic Bell's NetWorld which later evolved into DBNW. Since that time DBNW has gone from strength to strength, establishing a sound reputation for speed, reliability and excellent customer service growing from a single POP (point of presence) to national ISP status with thirty one POP's throughout Australia, utilising a Cisco backend.
Growth
DBNW internet access is currently maintaining an exceptional growth rate in its customer base and is also maintaining similar growth rates in the related fields of website design, programming and hosting. The user then may answer the email also over the phone as a sound attachment, direct the email to another destination or even have it faxed to his current location.
Kidz.net and Future Branding Opportunities Recently DBNW was named the preferred national ISP for Kidz.Net. Through this alliance DBNW has positioned itself as a caring ISP which is at the forefront of dynamic change, value added services and content for the Australian and International community.
DBNW is currently in discussions with a number of other internet related companies in the development of new and exciting technologies and content. DBNW will reveal these partnerships and newly established relationships as they unfold.
Expertise
DBNW is embracing the future with great optimism and we believe that the following areas will constitute the mainstay of our activities.
Customer service, the backbone of our business.
Internet based telephony, until recently a largely unreliable technology that
has now emerged free from the constraints of PC based systems into a
full "phone to phone" service.
Web site design, hosting and value added services such as 'StatPak' and
'SysMon'.
E-Commerce solutions.
Basic ISP services.
Complete email solutions.
Content driven portal sites.
Advertising sales and delivery campaigns.
Future
At DBNW we feel very strongly that there is an attitude within the Internet arena
whereby many of the players are so involved in the technology that they fail to
project that technology into a reality applicable to the end user. DBNW has a firm
policy of searching out and implementing only those technologies and services
that can clearly be seen as a true "value add" for you the customer.
